FIRST TIMERS AT CHRISTUS VICTOR

Visiting a new church can be intimidating if you don’t know what to expect. As soon as you enter the doors of Christus Victor, you will be welcomed by a diverse group of believers. We sing, pray and worship together. We have services for all ages and even our youngest devotees are catered to with our youth activities. Come and pray with us.

  • Do I need to be a Lutheran to Participate?
Not at all! We welcome people from all traditions and invite you to participate as you are comfortable. our service offers time to sing, pray, reflect, and meditate. We hope that you will find this time as a time to relax and be in God’s presence with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
  • How do I follow the service?
Everything you will need for the service is printed in the bulletin. The congregational responses are in bold print.
  • What about this thing called Holy Communion?
Holy Communion is often referred to as “The Lord’s Supper.” this is a time that we celebrate every Sunday. It is the ultimate act in forgiveness by God through the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. It is the time when we hear Jesus words to take and eat the body of Christ (Bread) and the blood of Christ (wine or grape juice). It is one of our two sacraments in the Lutheran Church. We believe that the bread and wine are the body and blood; however, they also retain the natural element of being bread and wine (or grape juice). You do not have to be a Lutheran to receive this sacrament. If you want to receive this sacrament, God invites you to the table. If you are more comfortable coming up for a blessing, we would be happy to accommodate you.
  • What is the offering and what is it used for?
During our worship services we collect an offering. this is a monetary contribution that helps us continue the ministries here at Christus Victor Lutheran Church. The offering is a model of what has been done in the early church all the way back to the time of Jesus. This contribution helps to keep our food pantry running, our Sunday schools operating, and all the other ministries that happen here at church. There are other ways to help our ministries. We invite and encourage the donation of time and talents to help existing ministries or start new ones. We are blessed by any of the three donations (Time, Talent, and/or Treasure) that you may choose to donate.
  • Do you have other things that go on at Christus Victor?
Yes, we do! We would love for you to check out our calendar on the homepage. There are numerous events that occur throughout the year. We have events like: Mother’s Day celebration brunch, shrimp and crab feasts, Christmas bazaar, and a host of other things that go on throughout the year.
  • What if I have more questions about the Bible or God?
Then you have come to the right place! We all have questions about God’s interactions in our life. We have questions of the Bible. Here at CVLC we have a Sunday School for young children, middle school classes, and adult Bible study classes on Sunday mornings during the academic year.
  • What if I want to know more about being a Lutheran or joining Christus Victor?
Again, you have come to the right place. If you want to have a discussion about being a Lutheran or becoming a member of Christus Victor, the Pastor would love to speak with you. There are many wonderful things about this process. One of the best things is that we bring all that we are to the cross and into a community, together. If you have questions, feel free to contact Pastor Ellen at pastor@christusvictoronline.org
